There are different types of air conditioning for Motorhomes
Roof top mounted mains driven Air Conditioning either Monoblock 0r the Split systems. These are mainly used on site hook up.
Compressor driven from the engine which comes out of the front heating ducts, a rear evaporator can be fitted to keep the rear cool when travelling. Customers do ask if they can run the mains Roof top air
conditioning while travelling. The short answer to this is yes you can, but you have to take into consideration
the amount of 12v DC current it will consume ie: between 60amps and 100amps, most modern vehicles
to-day have alternators fitted up to around 100a to 120Amp output, so you have very little left to run
the air conditioner. By the time you have spent money on trying to address the problem you are better
fitting front mounted Air
conditioning and a roof top mains system, many companies will fit the 12v driven
air conditioning but do not upgrade the split charge system.
this can cause a lot of problems when the alternator is trying to supply the air conditioner.
