There are several approaches in getting a satellite signal to suit your mobile application, although it really comes down to cost Vs convenince.
With fully automated & 'on the go' dishes at one end of the scale (which find a signal at a button press), down to manual set up & configuration devices at the other which require patience, a steady hand and basic technical ability.

Dish sizing must also be a considation, with the North East of Fance being best aligned with the signal 'centre', a 50cm dish will good coverage around cenral europe from that point (with England on edge of this area) but to get a wider perspective of Europe & coverage throughout the UK you need to look toward bigger dishes such as the 65cm & 85cm. CSA-2400M - In motion satellite receiver
Fully automatic antenna for use during driving.
This version of satellite antenna not only searches for and locates the selected satellite, it also automatically tracks the satellite while the vehicle is in motion. Advice and information on easy and quick satellite locating
Every satellite is positioned in orbit around the equator at a distance of around 36000 Kilometres from the earth. Each satellite is in a fixed and well defined position on this orbit, shown in degrees in the relation to the Greenwich meridian. The Astra 1 satellites are all positioned at 19.2deg east of Greenwich. The Eutelsat and Hotbird satellites are all positioned at 13 deg East of Greenwich. The Atlantic Bird 3 is (AB3) satellite is positioned 5 deg to the West of the prime Greenwich meridian. Satellite reception area (footprint)
Since the satellites are fed exclusively on solar panels, the power available for transmitting to the ground is very low. They are therefore forced to to concentrate all their transmitting energy in a very small area of the Earth, so the signals can be received by parabolic antennas which are relatively small. The effect of the signal transmission is like the light beam of a car, more powerful at the centre of the beam, weaker and weaker towards the edges. These areas, where one can receive the signals delivered from the satellite, are called footprints, each satellite has a different footprint depending on its power. For example Older satellites have smaller transmission power, and hence a smaller footprint. Given the power ratings of the Major satellites, TELECO has chosen for its whole range of satellite reception systems 3 dish dimensions: 50cm 65cm and 85cm.
Reception of TV and radio signals broadcast by the 3 groups of satellites is guaranteed within the (Darker) footprint areas, It should be remembered the signals become weaker when the sky is overcast or when it is raining, and this could lead to images with black and white dots, or the image could even disappear. When choosing the satellite system to be installed on your vehicle, make sure the dimensions of the parabola are suitable for receiving the satellite signals in your viewing area.
How to align the parabola on the satellite.
1. Make sure that the place you are in is inside the footprint for your parabola 50cm 65cm 85cm.
2. Make sure the sky towards the south is not screened by nearby obstacles trees houses etc which would prevent the signal being received. Since all the main satellites Astra Hotbird AB3 are positioned on an Orbit over the plain of the Equator, the Parabola must be pointed in that direction towards the south.
3. Set the exact elevation of the parabola, remember that the satellite is always fixed on the equator, as you move from North to South on the globe the parabola must be angled more, for example in Scandinavia the parabola must be angled at 15Deg to point to the satellites, whereas in Morocco it must be angled at 50Deg.
With the Teleco systems you wont run out of patience attempting to set-up. As can be easily imagined, aligning the antenna with a satellite situated 36000Km above the earth, without any help, certainly calls for a good deal of patience and a stroke of luck. Teleco has made this operation very simple and quick. With Voyager Plus and Voyager matic systems you can set elevation in no time. Just check the supplied map to determine the angle that the dish should have for your current location, then turn the crank to reach the required setting. Once the elevation has been set, turn the parabola (already pointing south) in a little to the right (15 to 20 Deg) a little to the left, and images will appear on the TV screen immediately.
